Mantra, is a sacred utterance or syllable or word or verse, which is considered to possess some spiritual efficacy.
Some mantra are spoken aloud, while some are merely sounded internally in one's thoughts.
Some mantra are repeated continuously for some time, or for a number of iterations, while some are sounded only once.
Repeating or meditating on a particular mantra can lead one to a higher level of spiritual awareness, and can induce higher states of consciousness.
AUM/OM is a scared syllable which is considered to be the greatest of all mantra, or sacred formulae.
The syllable OM is comprised of three sounds: A-U-M (aah-ooo-mmm)
It is said to be the sound the Universe makes when all else is silent.
The past and present, and the future... all that was, all that is, all that will ever be... is OM.
Mantra should be enuciated clearly and pronounced perfectly if the mantra is in Sanskrit, this being because Sanskrit syllables carry a vibration all their own when spoken properly, which is why Sanskrit mantras are so powerful. Two languages on earth have vibrations when spoken aloud and if spoken properly: Sanskrit and Hebrew. Sanskrit requires the proper placement of the tongue and the proper pitch. If you are beginning to use mantra, please contact us so that we can assist in the proper pronunciation, which is rarely observed in the western world. Too much esoteric knowledge has been lost in the translations.
To chant OM (A-U-M) properly:
One should break the sounds down to AHH followed by OOO and MMM, respectively. It should be completed in one breath, sustained.
Using a count of 10 as a parameter,
-The AHH part should last for counts 1-3, and originate in the diaphragm, moving upwards.
-The OOO part should last for counts 4-6, be located around the throat, moving towards the mouth.
-The MMM part should last for counts 7-10, and travel from the back of the mouth, across the roof of the mouth and end in feeling the vibration on your lips.
It climbs, from the diaphragm up to the lips.
Adjust how long you do it, keeping the ratio above the same.
