There are many things you can do to cleanse and take care of your energy field, called the “aura” in the west, and the “pranamaya kosha” in the yogic sciences (though the two are not necessarily synonymous). These protective measures may require you to form new habits and behavioral patterns, but doing so will ensure that you can function in the world without succumbing to negative energies or feeling drained all the time.
1) Set Healthy Boundaries
One of the best ways to safeguard yourself is to set healthy boundaries. No matter where you are and who you are with, make sure that other people know your boundaries and respect them. This will help you save your energy and keep unwanted energies away.
For example, you could choose not to spend time with energy vampires and creeps, you could stop hanging out at places that drain you, you could take your time before answering texts and calls, and so on. Remember, doing these things does not make you selfish! Treat yourself (and others) the way you would like others to treat you. You are not exempt from the Golden Rule. (See my article on Energy Vampires!)
2) Use Crystals To Protect Yourself
Crystals are incredibly powerful natural minerals that are packed with healing and protective energies. What's great about them is that there are crystals for virtually every purpose. When it comes to protecting your energy, you could use a tourmaline crystal, for example. For addiction, one might use amethyst.
You don't have to go out of your way to make crystals a part of your life. You could simply carry small ones in your pocket, purse, or backpack. You could also keep them at your home or workplace. The idea here is that close proximity to crystals can keep your auras clean and protected. Crystal jewelry is my personal favorite way to utilize crystals. (Magic wands are my second favorite. I may write about this later…)
3) Give Yourself Time To Recharge and Cleanse Your Energies
Just as a battery needs to be recharged, your mind, emotions, and soul need time and space to be recharged. When you have been around too many people for too long, you might feel exhausted. Don't worry - it happens to a lot of people. When you're around people, there's an energy exchange going on that you might not even be aware of. In Yogic science, there is a certain body memory that we talk about, called Runanabandha. This happens with everyone you intermingle with, and the more intermingling that happens, the more of their energy *rubs off* on you. So, it's natural to feel drained.
In this case, all you need to do is spend some time with yourself. You could get a nap, take a warm relaxing bath, spend time with mother nature, or just cozy up in your bed. The way that I *recharge* my energies, is by doing number 4, below:
4) Meditate Regularly
Meditation is a one-stop solution to a lot of our problems. When it comes to taking care of yourself, it is perhaps the best way. When you sit in silence and meditate for a while, your whole aura gets automatically cleansed.
Plus, you also get a downpour of tremendous divine energies. These can not only clean you up (on an energy level) but they can also make you much more peaceful, relaxed, and at ease. They can also expand your aura and make it more powerful.
Certain meditative practices, such as pranayama (ancient yogic breath work) can actually serve as one of those fast-acting super-charging cables you’ve seen for cellphones. I have experienced pranayama as the fastest and most-effective way to effect wellness within the entire being (body, mind, soul), in all the dozens of modalities I’ve studied, utilized, and taught.
